BALLET WEST ACADEMY
Ballet West Gala
The Annual Ballet West Gala was October 28 and Capitol Theatre was full of dancers, donors, and fun! More than 150 of our students took the stage in front of a packed house to perform a Grand Défilé and mingle with some of their idols and biggest supporters. Academy Director Peter LeBreton Merz was among those in the audience and said "watching the students from Ballet West Academy performing in the Dancing with the Dancers Gala filled me with pride. It is such a joy to work with young people who are so passionate about ballet, and who are committed to their performances". It's only November and our dancers are progressing immensely and we can't wait to see what the rest of the year brings!
News from The Barbara Barrington Jones Ballet West Academy
Just over a week before the Invitational, Artistic Director of Ballet West, Adam Sklute and Academy Director Peter LeBreton Merz sat in the studio at Thanksgiving Point to see excerpts from their Invitational program. As the music played and the kids filled the room with arabesques and emotional movements, you couldn't help but be proud; and after the rehearsal was done and the kids were sitting in front of some of their biggest supporters, Adam Sklute ended the evening by saying "I am so proud of you."
Fast forward to November 1, before the curtain rose you could hear the feet of the dancers getting ready to perform on stage for the first time this year. Family and friends looked on with bouquets in their laps and the auditorium went silent as Vivaldi started to play. To understand how much has been accomplished in the last few months you need not look further than Principal Jennie Creer-King. Of their first performance of the year she said "It is always with great pleasure to see the success and growth of the dancers at Barbara Barrington - Jones Ballet West Academy. The vignettes of romantic classical ballet ending with cutting edge classical works in the Invitational performance was inspiring. The broad depth of our student's abilities and talents was evident as they danced with their entire heart." From all of us at Ballet West Academy, we hope you felt the same.
The Ballet West Scholarship Fund
The Ballet West Scholarship fund has allowed more than 200 dancers to pursue their dreams in the last 3 years. We know this wouldn't be possible without you; so on November 28th we're asking you to donate so that the future of ballet is a bright one.
“Being on scholarship encouraged me to take myself and my dancing more seriously. As a confirmation of other peoples’ belief in my future, my scholarship changed my perception of dance from being just an expensive hobby into a passion and an identity. “ -Lucas Horns
“The Ballet West scholarship I received as a trainee enabled me to move on to a program directly linked to a reputable ballet company, and one that I was hoping to be a part of one day. Without this scholarship, I would not have been given the opportunity to work with Ballet West faculty on a daily basis, nor perform with this company in the 2010 Gala. I am so thankful for Ballet West’s generosity because this scholarship gave me the chance to take the steps I needed as a student to become a professional dancer.” -Paige Adams
